Flash – To Be or Not to Be?
That is the question. Should you use Flash on your website or not?
Flash has the ability to deliver a very strong visual effect and it looks really cool, but there are some real drawbacks to consider.
The biggest concern today is the fact that iPhones and iPads can't see Flash. It does not make sense for a restaurant or attraction to have Flash as many of the viewers to the site would be tourists on holidays with their hand held devices.
We must also take into consideration that Flash is not the most search engine friendly. There are essentially two sets of eyes that look at your website, human and non human. In order to get your site indexed the spiders must be able to crawl your site. Flash makes this task more difficult and certainly less effective.
The final consideration we will leave you with is the update ability. A Flash file or movie can date itself very quickly with less ability to keep it current and updated. Although we can program our
content management system to update the Flash file it is certainly a more costly option.
Having said all that, Flash does have its place. Not much can compare to it when it comes to delivering high-impact rich media. There is a purpose for all tools. Below are some examples of Flash for your review.
